First Class

The Titusville Playhouse like a planes crew frantically puts everything in their proper places before the time of departure. The passengers seem ready to board, some tickets sold and some still await pick-up at the box office. The lobby has passengers crowding like a crowded airport, ready for the show to take off.

Now the ticket holders, can enter the lobby of the Titusville Playhouse, like boarding a plane and take their seats. The pilot and co-pilot have boarded and taken their seats. The lights flash letting the passengers know the show will approach the runway in two minutes, letting all the passengers know to settle to their seats. The non- smoking lamp stays lit, snacks, beverages, and facilities will have availability in the rear of the plane. The run way is clear and the show is about take-off.

The landing gear retracts as the curtains open at the Titusville Playhouse and the plane starts the journey for another perfect show. The passengers stay relaxed in their seats as the flight attendants approach the stage. Let the show begin.

As the plane reaches the final destination, the passengers seem content with the flight. The passengers can meet the crew in the front lobby as they depart the Titusville Playhouse.

This was just, another perfect performance, at 301 Julia Street in Titusville, at the old Emma Parrish Theater. The Titusville Playhouse put the performance together, and the crew consists of the many volunteers and performers.

Lights, Camera, Action

Yet another production at the Emma Parrish Theater, SIDE BY SIDE by SONDHEIM is into their second week-end at the Titusville Playhouse. What a wonderful musical production.

You might ask did you see the production. The reason I know is because I’m a volunteer. What a wonderful experience it has been. Not being an actor by any means; I’ve operated the spot light for rehearsals and the Sunday productions, and yes I have seen it while volunteering.

In order to have a great production volunteers are needed. The volunteers consists of play writers, directors, light, sound, and spot operators, performers, bartenders, ushers, cashiers, set construction, and many other opportunities. The volunteers are the back bone to all the productions at the Titusville Playhouse. Without the help of volunteers the production would not go on.

The outcome of volunteering is the reward of being able to help someone with a specific need. That specific need at the Titusville Playhouse is the need to put on a wonderful production such as Side By Side and many other productions to entertain and bring culture and diversity into the general public’s life.

You Can Make a Difference!

Are you the type of individual who wants to make a difference? Then you’re the individual that is needed to support your community through the Arts. The arts are always looking for compassionate people to help them succeed. You don’t have to sing, dance, play an instrument, or paint pictures to get involved. All is needed is a little time and determination to help these non-profit organizations with their daily need to succeed.

The performing arts and museums in Brevard County are abundant. There are various playhouses such as The Titusville Playhouse, The Surfside Players, Cocoa, Village Playhouse, and many more including some in the area High Schools. The Brevard Symphony Orchestra performs concerts as well as the Brevard Chorale plus many more throughout Brevard County as well. The Air Force Space & Missile Museum and the Brevard Art Museum is only a couple of the museums in the area.


All these organizations need volunteers to help. One organization that brings all the arts together in Brevard is the Brevard Cultural Alliance. This BCA has the means of letting the county know about upcoming events. The following is a quote taken from their mission page “A mission of the Brevard Cultural Alliance, Inc. (BCA) is to build and sustain a vibrant and dynamic arts and cultural sector integral to Brevard County’s quality of life.”


Come out and support your community, and the community will support you. Be a volunteer, it can be rewarding.

What a Place

As I approached the rustic looking building on the corner of 301 Julia street, in downtown Titusville, I realized, how amazing, that this building has so much history. The building I’m describing is the old Emma Parrish Theater where the Titusville Playhouse is located.

Why am I going here you might ask? The reason for the visit is to find about volunteering. When I entered the office area, a place that makes a person feel very comfortable and at ease. I am greeted by Pat, a very warm and caring person, “How can I help you” she asked. I explained what the purpose for the visit was, and she said “have a seat” Jerry will be right back from the post office, to help you with your inquiry.

As I spoke to Pat, she said “Elvis is coming, in December”, and June and Johnny Cash will be here in February. Elvis is a local postman, and June and Johnny Cash is a couple living in Port St. John who used to work the cruise ships.
You could tell by the look in Pats eye, that these shows are a really big hit, in the area. Pat explained that people are already calling about these shows and the tickets, haven’t even been printed.

In the 20 or so minutes I spoke with Pat, I could tell by the sincerity in her voice, how dedicated she was. These are the type of people who work and volunteer at the Titusville Playhouse.
